Who can apply?

In order to apply for the Study Abroad Programme you must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Minimum 1 year of full-time study at a recognised university (this criteria applies to a majority of applicants however high school students from some countries may meet the entry requirements)
  2. A GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.5 or better (on a 4 point scale) or equivalent;
  3. An English Language Proficiency level in accordance with QUT requirements* if English is not your first language. (this criteria applies to a majority of applicants however high school students from some countries may meet the entry requirements).

* If students meet academic entry requirements but do not meet English requirements please email studyabroad@qut.edu.au for alternative entry options.

How to apply

  1. Download the SE Form (Study Abroad Application Form).
  2. Select subjects. Select your subject preferences. Refer to the QUT Handbook or QUT Virtual. Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure that your academic advisor at your home institution approves your proposed study abroad program to ensure smooth credit transfer. It is also your responsibility to make sure that you meet relevant subject pre-requisites and feel confident that you will be able to successfully complete your chosen subjects. The online Handbook will indicate any subject prerequisites that may be applicable to the subjects you wish to select. To ensure that you meet immigration regulations for international student enrolment and workload (minimum 36 credit points) we strongly recommend that you nominate at least eight subjects in case some of these are not approved for study. You are able to change subjects after arrival at QUT (up until the second week of the semester) provided you meet prerequisites and you have home institution approval.
  3. Check prerequisites. Ensure that you satisfy subject prerequisites.
  4. Credit Transfer. Consult your home institution regarding subject choices and credit transfer.
  5. Complete the Application Form and attach:
    • your most recent official academic transcripts (original or certified true copies) of your university studies. Include an English translation if necessary.
    • proof of English language proficiency (if English is not your first language) *Students who do not meet English language entry requirement can undertake English Language Programs at the QUT International College to gain the required proficiency
    • outlines of subjects you are currently studying, particularly as support for prerequisite subject criteria.
  6. Send your application to:

  7. Receive an Offer from QUT. Successful applicants will receive an Offer Letter, an Acceptance of Offer form and booklet Your Next Step which will explain in detail what you should do after receiving your offer. Admissions will provide feedback via e-mail on subject availability.
  8. Accept Offer from QUT. To accept an offer, students must complete and send back the Acceptance of Offer form and a completed method of payment form (available in Your Next Step) with the required fees.
  9. Receive Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)
  10. Apply for student visa. Your Next Step has information about applying for a student visa. You must have a valid passport and Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your stay in Australia. Visit www.immi.gov.au for further visa information.
  11. Prepare for Departure. Arrange your flight/s - we recommend arriving in Brisbane at least one week prior to the commencement of the Orientation Program. Return Reception and Accommodation Request form if you require airport reception and temporary accommodation. For more information visit International Student Services. We do not advise students to book their travel until they have received an offer.
